God (at least as far as this story goes) created the sentient creatures with free will. They can choose to be good, or evil, or anything in between. They can even be forgiven if they want to be.
Angels have it a bit tougher. They don’t have the same kind of free will. If a regular person sins, they’re still the same person, but if an angel chooses to go against the wishes of God, they get cast out of heaven and become demons forever.
Well, Kermiel’s “Error in Judgement” involved allowing himself to be tempted. It’s no sin to be tempted, but an angel shouldn’t really put himself in that kind of situation.
